On Wednesday, September 2, 2009, Ethan Shoshan, will display a collection of over
100 relics in an exhibition titled ŌIÕm always thinking of you even when
IÕm kissing another boyĶ. This salon-style
installation and performance gathers found objects and re-tells their unique
histories. The show will take place at Envoy
Enterprises, 131 Chrystie St, NYC from 12pm – 8pm with a reception for
the artist at 6pm.
Shoshan is a New York City artist and
queer activist who incorporates personal histories as
an integral part of his work. In ŌIÕm
always thinking of you even when IÕm kissing another boy,Ķ he brings
back a tradition of storytelling, seamlessly connecting the
audience to a deeply personal experience outside of everyday experiences with
popular media, film and television.
Each objectsÕ narrative speaks to the universality of struggle and
desire while acknowledging the individual in both subtle and conscious manners
that sustains community and culture.
This exhibition features a selection of
ephemera, art and gifts – each inspiring a moment of authenticity and
emotion. As its architect, Shoshan
will remain present throughout the exhibition,
inviting viewers to learn the history of works in the show and share parallel
experiences and situations.
