Shadow Play, 2007
an interpretive playful multimedia installation with conflicting undertones
voices echoing around a cloud of mystery
surrounding your every move
you walk in
a terrible act has just taken place…
how could we have let this happen?
who did it?
who’s shadow is it really?
Exhibited in the public bathroom at the Newark Arts Council exhibition space. It is interesting to note that the bathroom did not have running water to wash hands, only toilet plumbing.
Sound was created in collaboration with Heinrich Zwahlen from a script I wrote in conjunction with the images and the novel, The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane. Sounds used were recorded from a workshop in Oliver Street School with children ages 11-14, clips from the movie, The Red Badge of Courage, directed by John Huston, guitar tracks by Ethan Shoshan, and found sound clips of war using a midi synth gathered by Heinrich Zwahlen.
Based on a series of workshops and photography sessions with children in the Oliver Street Public Elementary School in Newark NJ, groups of people, and artists.
